The 49ers and Titans will link up Thursday night in Tennessee for a match up between two teams trending in the opposite direction. The 49ers are 6-2 in their last eight games, while the Titans are 1-3 in their last four. This one opened with San Francisco as +1 road underdogs, but has since moved to the 49ers laying -3 in Tennessee.
Before we jump into breaking down the players and match ups in this one, lets take a look at some ATS trends regarding the Titans as underdogs and the 49ers as favorites recently. Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel is 17-11 in his career as a underdog, and his 5-2 this season in that role. On the other sideline, head coach Kyle Shanahan has been awful when his team is favored to win, going 13-23 as a favorite against the spread. Not to mention, dogs in prime time this season have been hitting at a nice clip. They are 26-19 ATS, good for 58% in 2021.
The 49ers have been producing for those betting them over their last six games, going 5-1 in that stretch. The Niners will be without top running back Elijah Mitchell yet again, and will rely on RB Jeff Wilson to have a repeat performance like last week against the Falcons, where he ran for 110 yards and a score. The Niners rushing attack is going to need to play a flawless game if they are going to have any success against this 2nd ranked Titans rush defense. Injuries on the offensive side of the ball have haunted the Titans during their recent downfall, but their defense has continued to play tough.

Tennessee's defense held the Steelers to 2-11 on third down last week, which makes it hard to believe they lost that game. Their offense was the one to blame for the loss. They had four turnovers in the loss at Pitt, and have turned the ball over 13 times in the last four games combined. Hanging on to the football is something the Titans must do in order to have a chance in this game.
The Titans playoff chances hang in the balance here late in the season. This is hard to imagine for a team that started the season out 8-2 overall. Despite their poor play recently, and the play of the surging 49ers, I am going to look for the Titans to bounce back here at home and cover. The public is all over San Francisco here, as they have been the better team of late. However, I really like this Titans defense, and their ability to stop the run. It is going to come down Jimmy G. beating the Titans through the air tonight, which I do not see happening. I will take my chances on the Titans coming out with a solid offensive game plan that will emphasize on hanging on to the football. This one is going to come down to the wire, so give me the home dog and the points.
